Beverly Corpening was born on July 18, 1953 and lost her battle with cancer just shy of her 51st birthday, on July 10, 2004. Beverly Corpening was the proud mother of one, grandmother of two and loving aunt to 11. She was born in Joliet, IL and survived by her parents Louie and Lucille Corpening. She was an active member of her church choir in Morganton, NC; Shiloh AME church.
There have been many diagnosed with cancer and the public only knows about the survivors. This campaign is being started by Dawanda Jones, a niece of Beverly Corpening. I want the world to not only remember those that survived their battle with cancer, but to also remember those that lost their battle. Everyone gives support for cancer research because we are all fighting for a cure. Let's remember Beverly and everyone else that still lives in our hearts. Together, we can exclaim "I Remember Beverly"; and the world will also remember your loved ones!
Everyone that reads this that has been affected by the loss of a loved one to cancer, please donate to our campaign. I want to honor my aunt by starting this campaign to inform the world that cancer research is important not only to those that survive, but for the families of the loved ones that pass on.
With this campaign, our goal is to reach a million people by July 18th, 2008; Beverly's 55th birthday. This letter will touch over a million hands, and reach over a million hearts. We are asking for a donation of a stamp and $5. The stamp will assist us in sending this letter to another person touched by the loss of a loved one. With your help, we can fight to "stamp out" cancer. The $5 donation will go towards Beverly Corpening's headstone. The remaining donations will be used to begin the Beverly Corpening Cancer Awareness Scholarship (BCCAS). This scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis to high school seniors attending college that have lost a parent to cancer.
If you are reading this letter and you have lost a loved one to cancer, I want to hear from you. If you would like, please send a picture of your loved one, along with a brief paragraph informing the world of what you remember most about your loved one. With your permission, their image and your story will be displayed on my website for the world to read. I would also like to create a quilt with their pictures along with their birth and passing dates. This quilt, once completed, will be presented to the only child and grandchildren of Beverly Corpening.
If you would like the world to remember Beverly, as well as your loved one, please donate to our campaign. A million hands and a million hearts can go far to "stamp out" cancer.
